Hormone fluctuations are widely accepted as part of female fertility, and yet it is only recently that the impact these fluctuations have on mental health has been prioritised. Oestrogen and progesterone are not just related to reproduction—receptors for these hormones are throughout the brain. Yet specialist input for women’s mental health in the context of the menstrual cycle and menopause is still not consistent or widely available. Our team at Women First Healthcare aims to explore and support clients’ physical, psychological and mental health while recognising the impact of their hormonal changes on all these aspects.
If you require specialist treatment our team can create an individualised treatment plan with you, which may include medication prescribing, mental health treatment or support and/or psychological therapy to help you to manage symptoms, the first step would be:
Initial assessment with one of our specialist Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Advanced Nurse Practitioners or Registered Mental Health Nurses.
OR
Initial assessment with one of our expert GP associates with specialist interest in menopause if you need a physical health review for this stage in your life.
Menopause care for survivors of cancer can be a complex area, requiring expertise, we can offer you the option of remote appointments for this and other similar matters with our colleague Professor Beth Payne, Clinical Associate Professor, University College London, Research Department of Haematology.
Individualised treatment plan, unique to you which may include:
Medication prescribing to improve your mental health symptoms.
Psychological treatment to help you to manage symptoms and improve your quality of life.
Ongoing follow up, review and support throughout your journey to improving your quality of life.
